The "Brown" Derby Amplifier

The following is the short version. Please click this link
http://www.quinnamp.com/thelongversion.htm for the lomgwinded  version.
This amplifiers circuit is based on a Fender 6g3. Also known as a Brownface Deluxe.

Modern saftey features added.
Heavy gauge 3-pronged grounded IEC power cable.
Removed "death cap".
Screen resistors to protect transformers from tube shorting.

Added standby switch the original design so that you may use a variety of rectifiers other than the GZ34 without danger of cathode stripping.
Added Slave/DI output for recording, board feed, or feed to the input of another amp.
Added an adjustable bias network and bias taps to allow easy biasing. Meter and instructions for biasing amp also included.

Thick non-corrosive aluminum chassis for best heat dissipation and lowered hum.
1/8" thick Garolite board construction. Flame retardant and virtually indestructible. Very repair friendly design.
Mechanical joint construction used throughout. Soldering quality second to none.
Mallory brand 150 signal coupling caps used throughout.
All signal and coupling caps outer foils have been identified, marked, and properly oriented throughout the circuit.
Power filtering and cathode capacitors are all Sprague Atom's.
Tight tolerance metal film resistors are mostly used throughout the circuit. Extra $40 charge for carbon comp flavoring.
A combination of CTS, PEC, and NOS Centralab pots are used depending on the function of the pot. Not all pots are created equal, even amongst the same brand!

Mercury Magnetics transformers. Simply the best. Reputation precedes them so I needn't say much.
I will say that I used a lowered B+ power transformer. This voltage correction accommodates for the simple fact that line
voltages were once lower then todays standards. Thus all vintage Fender amps are running much hotter then they did
in the 60's whereas my Derby amp is running on the actual design specified voltages internally. The result is my Derby sounds
like a brown deluxe did in the 60's. It's basically a time machine back to the golden era of rock and roll.

Speakers are 12" Tone Tubby Alnico's. Again I really need not say much. These speakers are a divine gift of the great muse.
Tone Tubby Alnico's have proven themselves to deliver the voice of my Derby amp in the finest way.

All Tubes are high quality NOS glass. There are some varieties to choose from, depending on what your after and what is available.
Please feel free to get in touch to find out what is "on the menu".
I do include a new production GZ34 rectifier, and a NOS 5y3.

Other tube compliment is Two 6V6, and Three 12ax7's.

Simple Volume and Tone controls, no fumbling, just easily dialed sweet tones.

Smooth natural power tube bias vary tremolo circuit. One of the best simple trem circuits ever made. Tremolo footswitch included.

All cabinetry is made on site and of the highest quality construction standards and materials.
I use #2 Pine wood top, bottoms, and sides.
Speaker baffles and rear baffles are made of 13 ply, 3/4" voidless Baltic Birch.
Halfblind dovetail joints. Unmatched strength. Balance tone. No flubby bottom end. Solid as a rock!

Pure, simple, unadulterated, raw, blues and rock and roll of tone!
